What is LEAP?

LEAP participants spend 2.5 hours in a one day virtual session of up to 20 students. Sessions will be for either middle school or high school. LEAP participants join together in fun activities that allow them to interact with each other, become more self-aware and learn about their strengths. Only 20 students will be accepted into each session, but that’s a large number of new people to meet, swap stories with, and connect! What an awesome and exciting experience this could be for you or a student you know! Plus LEAP is led and facilitated by adults who have grown up using LSL. How cool is that?

How much does LEAP cost?

LEAP is FREE to participating students. There is no guarantee that LEAP will be offered beyond 2024 so don’t miss your chance to join in!

Who should attend LEAP?

The Learning Experience and Adventure Program (LEAP) is designed for those who use Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) as their primary mode of communication. All programming will be offered in English. Most children who are deaf or hard of hearing and use Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) do not know another peer who also uses LSL. LEAP is an opportunity to meet other students from across the U.S. and around the globe who use LSL to communicate, learn and enjoy life!

How do I access LEAP?

LEAP participants will need access to a computer or mobile device that will connect to the “live” LEAP program sessions on Zoom. We’ll send you the invitation once you register. The program will be presented in spoken English, with remote captioning or speech-to-text written English transcription provided in all sessions. LEAP is only available in the “live” format.

ELIGIBILITY

To qualify, registrants must have a bilateral or unilateral hearing loss that occurred before age 4. Registrants must also use Listening and Spoken Language as the primary method of communication.
